Why Jesus? Print E-mail
What if you know nothing about Jesus?
Why would you enter into a relationship with Him?

  • First, there is the issue of truth ‚Äî the truth about your life. Human beings are helpless when it comes to facing the ultimate barrier in life: death. In addition to that helplessness, we even have a hard time with stress, traffic, personal frustration and failure, and heartbreak. The truth is: we cannot do life on our own! We need help.

  • Second, God tells you the truth about you. World religions tell you things that make you feel better. The voice of the world says, "You can have peace, contentment, and strength‚Ķif you think correctly, pray more, study harder, and do certain good deeds." The other option the world offers is escape ‚Äî escape through money, drugs, sex, and distraction. Unfortunately, while all these things might provide a temporary peace and escape, they do not give a lasting answer. God is up front with you. He says that "no one is good" (Romans 3:11). He says about humans, "They do not know what true peace is" (Romans 3:17). God doesn't pull punches.

  • Third, God gives a real solution. In a world of untruth, God sent Jesus, His Son, to do something no one had ever thought of ‚Äî to SAVE us! Instead of trying to do self-help, we see that God sent HIS help! No religion in all of history ever talked about a Savior. But that is what we need. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." Acts 4:12 says, "There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them." Jesus is the only one who is a Savior. He died on a cross, carrying your failures, your heartbreak, your guilt and your helplessness. He paid the price for you and rose from the dead so that you, too, can live a new life (Romans 6:4). God saves you and gives you this life as a gift because He loves you.

How do you start this relationship with Jesus?
  • First, talk to God about it. Silently or out loud say, "God, I recognize the truth about my life. I need help. I can't do life on my own. Thank you for telling me the truth about my capabilities and about my needs. Today I ask that you help me. Be my Savior. I will take a chance on you. I believe that you sent Jesus to die for me, to bear my burdens, and to give me new life. I want that new life. Please give me this gift. I give my life to you."

  • Second, get a Bible ‚Äî a good one that's understandable. Start reading it this way: Start with one of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John). You'll learn about Jesus' life. Then read GalatiansColossians. These are short letters to Christians with great teaching for faith and daily life. Next, go back to Acts, the story of how Christianity began. Then read Genesis. It's the first book of the Bible with key teachings about life and God's work. Then read Romans in the New Testament. After that, keep going with books of your choice. Be ready for an adventure and for blessing! through

  • Third, find a church and some fellow believers! Your goal is to grow in your new life, and to develop a solid foundation. You can't do that alone. Talk to a pastor about being baptized. As you learn about it you will see that baptism gives you solid-rock certainty to Jesus in your life. Learn about worship and about continued growth in your life as a follower of Jesus. You will grow in hope, in showing Jesus' amazing love, and in making an amazing difference on the world! Your life will be changing. Get support and guidance for this new journey.
