We have refreshments, a study and a meeting. We try to lift up each other and others in the church and community. Try us, you'll enjoy it! Next meeting: Sept. 7th.

Q & A for Women of Emmanuel:
Q: Of what group is Each woman of EVERY age a member? A: The LWML....Lutheran Women's Missionary League
Q: What do they do? A: During monthly meetings members grow in fellowship, ministry to others within and without Emmanuel proper, and service to our Lord.
Q: When are these meetings? A: The first Tuesday of each month at 5:30 in the Media Center aka Library.
Q: Why so early? A: Many members prefer not to be out late, especially during the winter months. Others like coming straight from work.
Q: What happens at these meetings? A: First, there are refreshments for our bodies (always tasty) and a time of fellowship. We then have a devotion. A business meeting follows, during which we discuss what group, person, or organization might benefit from our help. This includes our major fundraiser, THE PECAN SALE, which takes place annually. We are occasionally asked to provide a meal for a group such as Habitat or Wednesday night groups. A speaker is sometimes provided about a special group or topic that we want to learn more about.
Q: Anything else? A: LWML is the group that leads the Advent Tea Celebration, sponsors LWML Sunday, Mite boxes and their use for Missions locally and world-wide, encourages members to make visits to our Shut-Ins, and does special projects like the provision of the chest for our linens, the rolling cart for chairs in the Fellowship Hall, redecorating the women's bathroom, and the like.
Q: Why sould I come? A: You will be enriched in many ways, by the other members, our studies, and service to others and, especially, to Our Lord.
CHURCH CLEANING DAY to get ready for the Holiday Season: The Altar Guild and anyone who wishes to assist us will be cleaning the church on Saturday, September 18, at 10:00 am. All are welcome to attend either all or part of the activities. For more information, contact Stephanie Hanson at 683-0276.

Pastor's Monday and Wednesday Small Groups will resume meeting the week of Monday, September 13. We will explore Dietrich Bonhoeffer's "Life Together."
Genesis II is a group of ladies who come together once a month to encourage each other in our walk of Christian faith. We laugh together, cry together, and grow together in our time of fellowship and the study of God's Word. Our service projects include, but are not limited to, support of the Woman's Shelter, the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) stamp program, and the LWML (Lutheran Women's Missionary League) with our mites and prayers. We also select a yearly project, like scholarship money for our church's school, purchasing books for the Resource Center and the Lending Library carts, or some other worthy and much needed cause.
We meet the second Monday of each month - September through May - from 10:30 am until noon, usually in room 104 at Emmanuel. From time to time, we change our meeting place to venture forth for an informal breakfast, brunch or luncheon get-together. Mark your calendar for September 13 at 10:30 am for brunch at one of our favorite haunts, the Cracker Barrel on Smoky Park Highway. It will be wonderful to see each other again as we restart our programs. ALL LADIES ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND the brunch, and of course we would welcome you most warmly at any of our regular meetings.
11:00am Praise & Worship Service in the Gym! Emmanuel Lutheran Church is committed to reaching those who are not in an active, vibrant relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. We are also committed to the ongoing discipleship of those already trusting in Jesus as Savior and Lord of their life. The Rev. John Greene, LCMS Pastor and active member of our parish, will lead the services. God is blessing us with yet another opportunity to invite others into the presence of Almighty God and to experience His grace, mercy and forgiveness rooted in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection. Please continue to invite others to join us at one of our three worship services on Sunday Mornings: 8:30 am (liturgical); 11:00 am (liturgical); and 11:00 am (Praise & Worship in the gym).
Golf: We play every other Wednesday at local golf courses. Please contact Doug Greene (779-6501) if you are planning to attend so that he can set t-times for everyone. This group usually dines out after the game. Haven't golfed with us before? Call Doug and ask to join up--we'd love to have you along!
Bushwhackers: This is a hands-on ministry of planting, pruning, weeding and general maintenance. It is important to keep our campus looking in good and presentable shape. We meet for four hours a month on the 3rd Saturday of every month through November. In addition to keeping Emmanuel cared for, Christian fellowship is an essential element of our time together. Thanks to all those that have served with such dedication over the years and can be counted on in 2010 and beyond. However, we have had significant attrition of those that initially pledged to participate over the years, resulting in fewer participants. The load on the faithful is such that the addition of new members is essential to keep things looking nice. Therefore, you are urged to please sign up to be a Bushwhacker on the sign-up sheet out on the bulletin board, or call Gerry Hardesty at 299-3315-thank you.
The Mission and Outreach Team is looking for individuals interested in the following ministries: making phone calls to visitors, making home visits to visitors, serving as a greeter coordinator and serving as the advertising coordinator. If interested or for more information, please contact Rich Baldwin at 628-9537.
The Family Ministry Team would like to restart the College Student Project. We are in the process of gathering the names and addresses of our members who are either in military service or in college and will send these names out for "adoption" to the congregational body. If your child is a college student or member of the military, please email their address along with their year in college, to Lisa Baldwin at rtbaldwin2@charter.net as soon as possible. We ask that those who adopt a college student communicate at least monthly, giving them news of happenings at Emmanuel and the Asheville area, "goody boxes," and prayers. Contact Lisa at the above email address to adopt a student/military personnel today.
Recycle Your Print Cartridges! The Girl Scouts are going to start a recycling program. They will be earning free technology, recreation/playground equipment and CASH for our school by recycling inkjet cartridges and laser cartridges. So, look for bins in the school lobbies soon!
Reminder-we also have services at noon on Wednesdays with Holy Communion. Come join us!
