OKTOBERFEST 2017! Our Annual Church & School Oktoberfest will be Sunday, October 1 after the 11:00 church services. We will provide both German and American food, along with rides, contests, games, cake walk and inflatables for the kids. We are also blessed to have the Mountain Top Polka Band playing live mujsic for us again this year--so be sure to mark those calendars for an afternoon of family fun!
CAKE WALK DONATIONS for OKTOBERFEST: Please consider donating either a commercially purchased or homemade cake (or plate full of cupcakes) for this year's cake walk at our Oktoberfest on October 1. A table will be set up by the Fellowship Hall/Cafeteria doors starting the Thursday before the event. Thank you for making this annual event so wildly succesfful over the years and supporting this PTL School fundraiser!
Leisurites: When was the last time you sat in a classroom? Join us on Wednesday, September 20 at 10:30 amf or a specially arranged visit at our own Lutheran School at Emmanuel. >Bereavement Meal Support: Help with setting up, sersving and cleaning up of light reception-style meals at Memorial Services or helping prepare a meal for families to take home to help feed family members attending the service.
>Office Help: Do you have a couple ours on a Friday afternoon you could spare? If so, we could use your help with Putting together our church bulletins. We usually meet between 1-3pm. NEW ADULT BIBLE STUDIES:
>"Family time Training" - God calls parents to be the primary spiritual leaders of their children. The Bible tells parents to "teach your children" (Deuteronomy 6:7). This is a meaningful calling and a weighty responsibility! Once parents realize this responsibility, they want to be obedient, but often don't know HOW to teach their children. Join us for this 12 session study that will encourage and equip parents (and other adults) to teach the Truths of the Bible to their children AT HOME using fun and effective family time activities. (Adult Sunday School ) meets at 10:00 am in the sanctuary with Pastor McFarland
>"Martin Luther, He's Our Man!" Children's Sunday School starts on September 10th, at 9:45 am . We will learn all about Martin Luther and his times in order to know why we celebrate The Reformation 500 years after he posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg. All children, preschool to 5th grade meet Kay Thorp in the fellowship Hall.

Reformation Art Contest - Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of the REFORMATION through Art! Contest is open to students AND Adults of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and School! All artwork needs to be submitted for judging no later than Sunday, October 8, 2017. Registration Entry Form must be submitted by September 1, 2017. Prizes will be awarded on Sunday, October 29 in the following age groups: Elementary (Grades 2-5); Middle School (Grades 6-8); High School (Grades 9-12); and Adult. If you've always wanted to memorize scripture, but have found it difficult, the Internet comes to the rescue. Memverse.com is a web based tool that lets you choose scriptures of interest and then guides you through the process of memorization. It's an amazingly powerful tool! Linus Blankets, sponsored by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans are a group of folks who meet every 2nd Tuesday in the Fellowship Hall who make special blankets for children going through some form of crisis or tragedy, such as hospitalizations, accidents, fires, etc. They are VERY simple to make and are a lot of fun so come join us! Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts meet on Tuesday nights: Boy Scouts at 7:00 pm in the church narthex/lobby area, and Cub Scouts at 7:00 pm in the church Fellowship Hall. Boy Scouts, one of the traditional membership divisions of the BSA, is available to boys who have earned the Arrow of Light Award and are at least 10 years old, or are 11 years old or have completed the 5th grade but not yet 18 years old. The program achieves the BSA's objective of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness. For younger boys, we also have a Cub Scout troop. The Mission and Outreach Singers were formed 12 years ago as an outreach ministry of Emmanuel. They go to area Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities, Prisons and Shelters. Monthly visits to different facilities are scheduled where they share scripture, have prayer and pass out devotional booklets. Members find that while they go to be a blessing, they always come away feeling that they are the ones who were blessed. To find out more, contact Doug Greene at 658-2114.

Prayer Ministry: Here at Emmanuel, we are a praying congregation. We pray for those who are suffering, be it physically, mentally, emotionally or spiritually, for members of our church, friends, neighbors, our community and for our nation. We also pray for our spiritual leaders and the leaders of our local, state and national governing bodies. —Serving Dinner at the Steadfast House: This Ministry serves Women and Children who are coming out of abusive relationships. Every 3rd Wednesday of the month folks from Emmanuel serve an evening meal for these broken families.
